These five films were once on, the now defunct, teacher tube. Great for looking at the working lives of children in Victorian England. The series tells the story of a young girl called Maggie through the trials and tribulations of growing up.
1. School Days
The first in a series of diaries which introduce life in the Victorian times through the eyes of a ten year old girl, Maggie Johnson.
2. Upstairs Downstairs
In this second episode Maggie gets a job in Pockerley Manor as a junior maid. This seems to be a great opportunity until a character from Maggie's past turns up.
3. Strike
The workers at the match factory go on strike. Maggie gets a new job as a photographer's assistant.
4. Down, But Not Out
Maggie finds a new job and makes a new friend
Out of work and distressed, Maggie meets Bessie, who comforts her and helps to find her another job at the match-making factory, Bryant and May.
5. Final Chapter
Maggie and Jim get married and Susan does something quite unexpected.
In the last instalment of Maggie's story, years have passed, Maggie is married to Jim and they have two children.
