Poppy and The Blooms by Fiona Woodcock 5-7

VIEW IN EDSHED

When the last park in the city is to be closed, Poppy knows she and the Blooms have to do something. Scattering magic as they go, the flower friends speed on their mission. Will they save the park?

This is a delightful story – the illustrations are beautiful. Poppy and her skate-board riding friends are feisty, fun and passionate and there’s a lovely theme running throughout the story of small things being able to make a big difference. The city is presented in muted greys and blacks and is cleverly presented as an ominous, grotty, foreboding landscape until Poppy and her friends work their colourful magic. There’s plenty to talk about too – friendship the power of nature, looking after the environment and working together. A powerful, visual treat.
