Gunnar, son of Bjorn, sees his father killed by a band of raiders. Swearing a blood oath, he sets off to travel to Valhalla, the hall of the dead and return with his father to defeat the head of the raiders. Whilst on this path of vengeance Gunnar meets both friend and foe who aid him on his quest.

This novel is 207 pages long so not too long to use as a class read, it is accessible to children aged around 9+ but use with caution as it does have some violent battle scenes which end in bloody death.
